Oak Creek Farms

October 27, 2018 Oak Creek Farms is celebrating 51 years of Breeding Brangus at their annual Forage Developed Registered Brangus Bull Sale. The sale starts at 12:30 pm at the ranch sale facility. Selling are 125 Oak Creek Brangus and Red Brangus Bulls followed by 100 Source Verified Commercial Heifers.

These bulls thrive on forages in the hot, humid environment of the gulf coast. They are selected for good phenotype and performance plus fertility. All sale bulls will be fertility and trich tested.

Oak Creek is going on fifteen years using DNA testing to identify heritable traits in cattle for feed efficiency, marbling and tenderness. They have been using ultra-sound results for over thirty years. All this data is used as tools in making critical management and breeding decisions.

This past year Oak Creek Farms tested 100 steers and 20 heifers at Graham Cattle Company and received the harvest data with grading results of 47% premium choice, 43% choice, 3% prime and 5% select. Producing easy fleshing forage efficient heat tolerant cattle is important in the production of quality beef plus these heritable traits are passed on to the progeny.

Dr. Tommy Perkins, Executive Director of the International Brangus Breeders Association, will speak at Oak Creek’s Seminar Friday evening October 26th at 6:00 pm followed by a Ribeye Steak Dinner. Dr. Joe Paschal, Texas AgriLife Livestock Specialist, will present a program on the “Importance of Cattle Fitting their Environment.”

The bulls and heifers will be available for viewing all day Friday. The bull sale video with performance data will be on the web site after October 1st. The sale will be on DV Auction and on line bidding is available.
